Biography

Gerardo Daniel Martínez Yañez joined Calderón & De la Sierra in 2018 as an intern in the litigation department, handling contentious matters related to patents and trademarks.

Before joining the Firm, Gerardo Martínez gained professional experience as an intern at one of Mexico's leading firms, internationally renowned for its expertise in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) & Fintech.

In 2021, he completed his Bachelor's Degree in Law at the Universidad Iberoamericana, and currently serves as an associate in Calderón & De la Sierra's litigation department. His practice involves advising on strategies for the protection, enforcement, defense, and exercise of intellectual property rights, mainly in the areas of trademarks and patents (pharmaceuticals and biotechnology).

In regulatory matters, his services include formal and technical opinion drafting, obtaining permits and authorizations, conducting due process audits, developing projects and subproducts, designing and implementing regulatory strategies, advising on product labeling and advertising campaigns, as well as managing government relations with relevant authorities, including the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) and other competent authorities in consumer protection, animal and plant health.

He has experience in consultancy regarding Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Copyright.

Additionally, he has collaborated in distinguished forums such as Red Box Innovation and has participated as a co-author in various Mexican journals and international articles, including "Ensuring the Protection of Personal Data," IDC by Grupo Expansión, Special Collections, September 2017, "The World of E-commerce Under the Law," IDC by Grupo Expansión, Special Collections, September 2017, "The Working Party Article 123," The Information Accountability Foundation (IAF), 2016-2017, "Big Data," The Information Accountability Foundation (IAF), 2016-2017, "IoT" and "Personal Data," The Information Accountability Foundation (IAF), 2016-2017.

In the academic field, he has a Diploma in Amparo Law from the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation in Mexico (SCJN) and is currently pursuing a Diploma from Harvard University and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) titled Patent Law & Global Public Health.

Finally, he is an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) based in Washington, United States.
